Charity raising on streets

Hello!

I was wondering whether anyone can deploy to the streets with buckets for fundraising or is there some sort of law that says we cant.... any advice would be gratefully accepted! x x

Hi Lisa

You would need to apply for a license or permit to do street fundraising. If you visit www.charity-commission.gov.uk that will give you more info. My advice would be to do supermarket collections/bag packing instead, as all you need to do is write a nice letter to the store manager and hope that they are kind enough to allow you to do a collection!!

Applying for a street collection is simple, you just fill in an application form with the details and if granted you will be issued with a licence for the day / time specified. To sell raffle tickets you need a seperate licence as well as the street licence.

hi,
i will be running my second marathon next year. I found street collections were a really good way of raising easy cash.
as well as the street license try getting in touch with your local supermarkets, just go in with a letter ( because they always want it confirmed in writing) and book your date.
other good places to do collections is at a football match after the game, at a racecourse after the racing has finished, at a theatre after the show has ended. just email and write letters to wherever you can think of, the worst they can say is no!
then you just need to rally your friends together, get some posters, tins, leaflets, stickers etc from the charity and your sorted. I made£300 last year from one collection on a not very busy tuesday in tesco. Ive now managed to get two collection slots in my local tesco on the 20th/21st december, the two busiest shopping days of the year, I reckon I'll raise £1000 over the two days!

good luck, never give up!

Oli
