GNR - Any tips please?

G-reg 05-09-2008, 12:57

Hello, I am doing the Great North Run and raising money for cancer research. It'll be my first time doing a half-marathon. I've been training for a month and doing well but was wondering if people could give me some tips about the actual day/share their experiences with me.

This like how much water to drink before during and after the gnr, training the week before, times a beginner should be looking to complete, common training errors leading to injuries, any other general tips that you may have learned from your experiences.

Any tips/experiences would be greatly received, it'd be good to hear from other runners.

Cheers

Greg

Hi Greg, not sure how much infor you've received in reply to your post but I've got a physio sending me training info that won't hurt the muscles, bones etc, so soon as I have it, will send it your way.
It's my first run too...

Good luck

Hi Greg,

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you... so I've done some searching on the net .... I signed up to the official greatrun website it's www.greatrun.org From this home page there is a link to a website called the training room, which I've signed up to as well. Sign up, enter your details and then click on the option for a training programme, it will then ask you general stats like the event your running, your height, weight, heart rate etc and then work out a training schedule that suits your fitness and experience levels. It's great support. It also gives you advice on training gear, nutrition and cross training, everything you need to know!

Yes I'm doing the Great North Run too, never done anything like this before, running is all new to me but I'm psyched and determined to raise the £1000 for my charity.

So how's your training going? and how's your fundraising going?

Hey Toni,

Thanks for getting back to me. Training is going well, I did a 10k on Sunday and finished it in a ok-ish time, but managed to complete without stopping and came about half way so it was good. I'm up to about 7miles when i go out now so getting there... slowly. Fund raising is a different kettle of fish, i only need to raise £400 so it shouldn;t be too hard but would like to get more. How's your running/fund raising going. Thanks for the tips i will definately have a go on that site and try and get some expert advice... thanks

Greg
