Hi ya,
I am doing the Cycle Cuba ride on the 13th as well. Bit mad really, as I did Cycle India in February this year. But I had such a brilliant time, that I wanted to do it again, and amazingly my husband was actually okay about me doing it. I just have to start the fundraising thing all over again, but will definitely be much more organised than last year!!

Hi Angela
Gosh I thought I was balmy but you really are a glutton for it! It is comforting to know though that it cant have been that bad or you definately wouldnt be doing it again. Because you are experienced I hope I can pick your brains about loads of stuff!

I am doing the one before its my second event had a great time on the 1st, fundraising is a lot more organised this time round, lots of small events rather than trying to get it in one hit, although the sponsership is harder this time for some reason, I am going to sign up for another event after this one fancy doing a treking one next.

Thank god someone else thinks like me... I thought I was going completely insane! I havn,t even done my first event yet and have found myself looking at what I could do next! I quite fancy the great wall of China or Peru but how do you get people to continuosly support you. The response I have had so far from friends relatives and work have been overwhelming but how to you get them to continue supporting you time after time?

I was thinking of doing Peru or China as well, but I think one a year is enough. In regards to fundraising, I am trying not to ask my friends and family for sponsorship this time, but rather coming up with events where I can sell tickets to, and things like that. I am arranging a garage sale for my local community, and am hoping that will raise quite an amount, we are doing it as a summer fun day, so will have a BBQ, face painting, bouncy castle and all that sort of thing as well. The council team that look after this area are going to support me as well, so that will be brilliant. I am also doing a quiz night, as the local pub has a free function room that I can use, so rather than asking for money from your friends, ask for their time to help you. Bagpacking at the local supermarket can also bring in quite a bit, so I am doing 3 of those over the year, again, it doesn't cost your friends anything, just a couple of hours of their time. I raised £600 last time I did it.

Cotswolds Training weekend
|
|
|
|
|
Hi all
I have just had my letter for the training weekend in the Cotswolds. What day is everyone thinking of doing or maybe both?I am a bit worried I wont be fit enough to do 80miles in a weekend by October so I may just opt for the Sunday.
I think I will leave it until I am back from Cuba before I consider another challenge seriously but I definately want to carry on doing my bit.

I won't be going on the training weekend either, I find it really hard to organise my husband to look after my kids! That, and it is a long way to go for me.
I didn't go on it last year either. In regards to fitness, as long as you are pretty fit, you should be fine on the cycle ride, not everyone can get super fit, not everyone was on the Cycle India ride, and except for the odd day, everyone completed it. However, speaking from experience, definitely do some hill work. Those undulations that they talk about, to me, and pretty much everyone else, were hills, whereas the hills I would have classified as mountains!!
I live in Hull, which is probably one of the flattest places in the UK, so I had a few issues with the undulations and hills, but plodded on, the support is amazing from all your fellow women.

Hi all
I live where it is very hilly in places so I am hoping I will be used to them by the time Cuba comes around. Do people usually go for the 2 days on the the training weekend? I really would like to think I will be super fit by then. I am making a good start considering I havnt been on a bike for so long and I am enjoying it too which has to be good. i am having withdrawal symptoms this weekend cos we have friends visiting and I cant get out for a ride. I have tried to persude them to come with me but no chance! might try and sneak out in the morning whilst they are still in bed if I am not too hungover!

Hi Lesley,
Sounds as if you are getting on really well with the training, I wish I was, I have had real trouble getting to the gym lately, let alone on my bike. Have to wait until the weather gets better. I don't like riding on the roads around here, as they are pretty busy, so I use a disused train track, but it turns into a bit of a swamp in the rain! Getting sick is the last thing I need right now.
