Hi,
I am committed to joining the NDCS trek to Machu Picchu in August. It would be really good to hear from anybody else who is planning on going.
Sponsorship is going OK as I'm over half way to the total I have set myself. I just wish training was going as well! Never mind, I have a cunning plan and should be in reasonable shape when the time comes.

hi RichieN
I am also going to Peru in august and counting down the weeks!!! Fundraising is going better than I thought and I have got my last big event booked for June when I am organising a Barn Dance.
My training is a struggle. In my head I am still a spring chicken but my body tells me otherwise after a session in the gym and there are days when I feel like giving up but I have got pictures of Macchu Piccu posted all over the place and that helps to keep me motivated.
would be interested to know the cunning plan!! Maybe it could help me??

Hi l'm Janine Lane,
I thought l would drop you a line. Could you give me some info on how much training l need to do, to cope with walking the
Inca trail.
I would be very grateful if you would write back.
Thanks Janine Lane

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in replying. I've been away learning to sail, this is my action year!
I have to say I'm no expert in training methods but am sure the fitter you are the better when it comes to walking at altitude. This will be the first time I've walked at such altitude although I have climbed alot of mountains in the UK.
I'm in my forties (that an official secret) and I am just trying to do some activity as least 3 times per week. At the moment, I am going to the gym once or twice a week, tennis once a week, walking as much as possible. I have just been to the Lake District to climb Blencathra and theres a full weekend of mountain climbing planned in June.
I would suggest you need activities to help build your legs and stamina. So walking and cycling would be good. Also get some good long walks done ie around 4/5 hours so you will know how you will feel on the trek.
Hope this helps
Richard

Hi,
It's good to hear from a fellow trekker. The weeks will start to disappear now and before I know it, it will be time to depart and I will still be unfit!
Barn Dance sounds like a good idea - ie lots of people. I know what you mean about training being a struggle, I am just trying to do lots of different activities to keep it interesting. My cunning plan involves doing the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride which is 70 miles from Wetherby to Filey. I also have a full weekend of mountain climbing planned in the Lakes in June.
I suppose the more walking we do the better and the less drinking! What's your fund raising target?

hi richie.
tickets going reasonably well for my barn dance which will take me over my minimum limit of £2,600.
I know what you mean about keeping the training varied as that is what I tend to do. I do Yoga on a Monday, play Badminton for a couple of hours on a Tuesday night, gym on thursday or Friday and I am managing to walk most weekends and I have got a couple of 15/16 milers planned in the coming weeks. I have stepped up the training in the last couple of weeks but I have a holiday in Greece for a week coming up so that will be a test of my determination!!! It will only be 7 weeks after I come back from there before we go to Peru so I shall have to take it up another notch after that!!!
I have been trying to get in touch with other people who are going on the trip as I think it will make it much easier to at least know a little bit about our fellow travellers!! Will you go down to London for the get-together?? I am hoping it is not while I am on holiday!!! Where abouts in the country are you?? I am in South Yorkshire.

Hi,
Sounds like your doing pretty well to me. I'm upto £2200 in sponsorship so will need to run a event or two.
You're the first person who has been in touch but I spoke to NDCS yesterday who advised there are around 50 people due to fly to Peru to 'trek the trail'. I have heard nothing re the get together in London.
I live in Wetherby, West Yorkhire so maybe we could organise a northern event if there's enough people who want to get together without travelling to London. Having said that it's a good excuse to go down.
Enjoy the holiday, relax and drink lots of ouzo then proper training when you get back. If you get really fit, you could push me up the hills!

Hi Richie,
You seem to be doing well with your fundraising as well but it is a continual challenge to think of new things.
Wow 50 people seems like a big group, I thought it would be about 30 at the most. It will be hard to get to know that many people in that short a time but never mind it will still be a fantastic experience.
It mentioned the get together in the May 2006 newsletter in the Deadlines and Briefings sections. I think there are a few people from "oop North" but unless they join in on the messge boards we will never know.
Me getting really fit is a bit of a laugh but if I push you up some of the hills you can pull me up some of the others!!!!
Definitely on a count down now and have the weeks marked up on my calendar!! Spent some time at the weekend looking at rucksacks but still not sure how big I need. I suppose they are the sort of things they could tell us at the get together. At least I have got a good pair of boots.

Hi Jools,
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction re the website. I finally managed to access the right pages.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the briefing in London so a Northern get to-gether would be good if enough people were interested.

Evening,
I will not be able to attend the pre-trek meeting which I think is going to be in London.
If anyone who is also going on the trip is interested in having a get together somewhere in the North before we leave then please get in touch. It would be good to meet a few fellow walkers prior to the ordeal!

Hiya,
Just got back of hols to find out about the briefing. I am not sure of the feasability of going all the way to London for a two hour event.
In view of the fact that there are 52 people going on this trip who must be from all over the country it is a shame that there must be people like us who cant get there.
where would you suggest for a more northern meet??

Hi,
Hope you had a good holiday. Not much training going on I presume!
I'm off to the Lakes in an hour for a full weekends mountain climbing. Planning a 10 hour day tomorrow around the peaks of Hellevyn and some more on Sunday to build up the legs. England playing on Sunday at 4.00 means we'll have a easy walk then. Only 8 weeks to go now.
I suppose the get to-gether could be anywhere, Leeds or York or Sheffield. It will depend on where people are coming from and what's most convenient for all. So if there is anyone else interested.... let us know.

someone in my village is raising money for this trip she has done several trips and everyone is rather suspicious
we hate her
she herself is deaf but we do have suspicions that the money she is raising is mainly going to be used on the trip itself and and not on the charity i have read all most of the replys on this and have made a rough conclusion of the price of the trip and it sounds like hardly any of the money she is raising will not go to the charity but on this trip which sounds more like a holiday
please correct me if i have misinterprted any given information
i would like to find out more abot this thankyou
