Hi Girls
I know it's a bit late in the day for joining the forum. Only three weeks to go! However am getting so excited and a bit freaked now it would be good to see if everyone is feeling the same. I am not going to be able to make the 26th and 27th as i it's the last weekend before we go and my maternal guilt is kicking in now. I am going to Rutland water early Saturday morning if anyone lives round that way and fancies joinong me. I am really panicking about my fitness levels now. With kids, dogs, husbands and work it's hard to fit it all in.
Sian I hope you are feeling better now, what a pain to have that happen although at least it happened then and has given you a chance to recuperate before we go.
It was great to meet you all on the training weekend, can't wait to meet everyone at the airport.

Hi Nicky,

There are 4 of us meeting up at Graffham on Saturday morning (which isn't too far from Rutland) if you would like to join us.  I think we are meeting at about 10.15 if you are interested.  Was at Rutland on Sunday - it is very muddy, we looked like swamp monsters by the time we finished!!  Still at least you get to the front of the queue in the cafe quickly!

That would be great. I couldn't decide between Grafham and Rutland. Dave is going to go fishing and i thought because it's only ten miles I might not have the motivation to go round again if i was on my own, but it would be lovely to have some company as I am finding it really boring on my own. Just let me know where you are meeting and i will be there. Thanks

Hi NIcky,

We will be meeting at the cycling centre at Graffham at about 10.15, off the roundabout on the A1 then it's the first turning signposted Graffham Cycling on the right then it's on the left a bit down the track.  My mobile number is 07747864212 so you can give us a ring when you get there. It'll be great to meet up - the more, the merrier!  Normally we go round once, stop for coffee, then go again either once or twice depending on how we feel.  Dunno if you've ever been there before but it's very nice cos most of it is offroad so you don't have to worry about traffic (just the odd walker who doesn't hear your bell!)  and, unlike Rutland, there are no stupid, stray sheep!

See you on Saturday.

Viv

Hi
Received all the info in the post today. Really excited now. I had a bit of a giggle about the advice of closing your mouths in the showers. I think the half a bucket of hot water is going to be too precious to consider drinking it! Had a go at packing today and think it will be ok especially now that they suggest putting your helmet in your hand luggage.
Still unsure about malaria. Not sure if it's better to take them even if it's considered low risk. My practice nurse advises proguinal and chloraquine so really confused now also got ciproxin from nurse today so now am really sorted. See you all in fourteen days!

Hi Nicky

As far as the malarials are concerned I am back to taking them, in fact I have even bought them ready to start taking. I have been through a few contacts and the main thing is that it is actually medium risk, that is then increased slightly by being both rural and camping. Chloroquin plus proguanil is the recomended propholaxis but I think some are considering Malarone as it has less side effects and taken forless time. The problem is it is only available on private prescription which is very exphensive. but also it is second line, which means it is LESS effect within this area.

I got my prescription for antibiotics yesturday to take in case of Dehli belly. I found out they are on private prescription but have not taken it in yet so don't know how much they are going to cost!

It it helps mine were on private prescription and my doctor has a dispensery and it cost me the grand total of £1.34. Do take them they are invaluble. I had delhi belly for 24 hours and the Ciproxin really worked. Also re the keeping your mouth shut in the shower etc - don't forget this applies in the hotel in Agra for the first couple of days.

BTW when you arrive at Agra tired after your overnight flight and 5 hour coach transfer you will probably be swept into dinner as we were. When the lovely waiter comes round and offers you wine - it is not included in the meal and you will be buying it by the bottle at about £20 a bottle!! Far better to go for the Kingfisher beer which is about £3.25 for a large bottle instead.

Like Ann says, it the wine was not included, very expensive and not very nice! Waiters were even seen pouring glases back into opened bottles for re-sale! Best to stay clear!

Hi Girls,
I have had the most fantastic find today, one of my favourite red wines is now available in a plastic bottle with a screw top!!!!! How fantastic is that. Just got to decide now which equipment, clothing I can manage. After all a girl has to sort out her priorities.
See you soon

Thats a good tip about the wine as it seems a trap easily fallen into, though I do tend to prefer beer with curry. One question that occurs to me though, when we are camping do they provide pillows?. reading the info I received today, do we just take sterling with us and change it over there?

I am sure there were pillows, yes! I was so tired by the time I crawled into bed I can't say as I noticed. But i am sure there were! Yes, just take sterling. Can't take rupees in anyway. There will be opportunities to exchange it on way to the first hotel, at the hotel receptions and also during the camping nights. OOOOooo I am sooooo jealous - I want to go again!

I don't want to sound too much of a drunk but thought i would take a small bottle of Vodka with me just for anaesthetic purposes really!!
Have decided to take anti malarials and got them today and they only cost seventeen pounds, also got my ciproxin and it was just on a normal prescription.
One quick question, what did anyone take for the kids at the schools. What seemed to be the best thing to take? Two weeks today and we will be on the plane !

Don't pack pillows or towels - they are provided. DO take sleeping bags - it gets cold at night. Like Sarah I wish I was about to go again....x
